Hey guys!
I took some pictures of what I wore to my track practice yesterday and thought I would share. It was around 8 degrees Celsius during my practice, pretty chilly! This did not faze me as I quickly warmed up from all of the physical activity.
I don't know about you but I love seeing what other people wear while training. It always pumps me up!
Long-sleeved shirt: New Balance--> A favourite of mine because it keeps me warm, but the silky material does not trap too much heat.
Tank Top: Adidas--> First time wearing it but very comfortable and slimming.
Capris: Nike--> Probably my all time favourite running capris/pants. They don't slip down like a lot of mine do and they're a perfect length.
Spikes (shoes specifically used for the track): Nike Racing Distance--> The lack of support takes a while to adjust to but once you do, they feel like you're running bare foot.
Gloves: Fred Meyer--> These were very inexpensive and are great because the the fingertips are made of a special material that works on touch screens.
Socks: Puma--> Well they're socks... not much else to say.
Bag: Nike--> I got this bag for Christmas and it is already well used. I plan to do a product review on it soon which will provide you with more information.
Sports Bra: Forever 21--> One of my many sports bras. Not a huge fan of the fit and support, but the colour was just too pretty to resist!

Teriyaki Tofu and Vegetables Kabobs
Today I made the most delicious recipe for my family. I am a pescatarian (a vegetarian that eats seafood). It is isn't as difficult to not eat meat as it may seem when you have the right ingredients. There are so many alternatives out there nowadays such as tofu which was used in this recipe. Not only is this recipe super healthy, but it is delicious too!
I found this recipe on the website: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/2006/05/teriyaki-tofu-and-vegetable-kabobs.html
However, I only minimally followed the recipe, mostly changing it for convenience and to match my personal preference. Do not worry about exact amounts as this is a very flexible recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 350gram package of firm tofu
- 3 bell peppers
- 3/4 red onion
- 1 zucchini
- Teriyaki sauce of your choice (I used The Key sauce)
- Shish kabob sticks
Procedure
While waiting for the tofu to marinade, I chopped up all of the vegetables into large pieces.
I highly suggest this meal. Feel free to make changes to fit your taste. If you don't like peppers, use tomatoes instead! Have a fantastic day and if you do decide to make these, leave a comment telling me how it went!
Bye for now!

Ignore the carrots... I didn't end up using them.
First I cut up the tofu into approximately inch sized cubes (maybe a little smaller). I then marinated them in the Teriyaki sauce for an hour. I also added some minced garlic to increase the flavour.
The sauce I used was fabulous. Make sure to not use too much as it contains a lot of sodium.
Colour in food is definitely a good sign! **Tip: Soak the skewers in water before cooking. This prevents them from burning.**
Slide the vegetables on the skewers. Try to include a somewhat equal amount of each ingredient. I love tofu so I put at least 3 pieces on each skewer.
Grill, bake or broil the kabobs until the tofu has browned.
I broiled my kabobs. The finished product! They were absolutely delectable. Normally tofu doesn't have very much flavour but the teriyaki sauce just made it mouthwatering.
Bye for now!
A Little Encouragement
Hey guys!
Some days when I am feeling lazy, I'll be scrolling through instagram or twitter and see a post saying something like "just run, you won't regret it" or "get off your butt and move!" When I see these, it feels quite personal and I'll think what is my excuse? Why am I not on a run right now? These encourage me to get up and get active.
I was searching the web and found some inspirational photos. Hopefully these motivate you like they did for me. If you haven't worked out for a while and are trying to find an excuse without really coming up with something valid (example: if you broke your foot I'll forgive you for taking a few days off,) then I suggest you come back to this page because what is your excuse?

Easy 5 Mile Run
This is my first "journal" entry on this blog, how exciting! I plan on posting in here as much as possible, but it can be a little difficult to document my track workouts. Since this is a new blog, I am a little unsure of the schedule but I will do my best to keep this up to date!
Two days ago I went on a run with my dad to a trail near our house. I waited for him to come home from work and then we were off! We left at around 4:30 hoping the sun would stay up for the majority of our run. It gets dark so darn early where I live at this time of year! This can be a hassle as I am not allowed to run at night by myself which means I always have to hurry home from school if I'm planning on embarking on a long run.
I used to go on runs with my dad often and it was nice for us to bond. Sadly it is harder to find time nowadays as my track is 5-6 times a week. Because I workout 6 days a week, that only leaves one day for me to go on a run or to the gym. Keep in mind, this isn't the case every week because practice is sometimes cancelled or times are switched. However, when I do have practices 5 times a week, they are on both days of the weekend which used to be when I would go for a run with my dad. It is difficult for him to go with me on weekdays because he doesn't get home from work until 6-6:30, which is far past sundown. Don't get me wrong, night runs can be enjoyable, but the trails become dark and dangerous, and my dad prefers to not run on the roads because of his back and knee problems.
Okay, Okay, I will stop complaining and talk about the stuff you really care about: my run. The place we went to consists of two trails: an enclosed trail directly in the forest and a more open paved trail. I usually prefer the paved one because the trail is wider to run on and the scenery is nicer. Yes, the concrete isn't great for my legs, but running on it once a week (hopefully) won't kill me.
Before I joined my track club, I would run on the road 6 times a week which caused knee and ankle problems. Once I lessened my amount of concrete running and learned how to properly stretch before and after a workout, my leg problems healed.
The trail I went to was beautiful. The weather was perfect, chilly but dry; just how I like it! There were even stretches of thick fog along the trees. I could have ran without my music and been entertained by the scenery itself. It had been half a year since I ran the trail, so it was inspiring to think of all my wonderful memories created there in the past years.
It is 1 mile from my house to the trail and vice versa. Plus, the trail is a little under 3 miles. Altogether, we ran 5 miles in 47:49 (9:32/mile). This may not be entirely accurate as I had to stop my tracker every once in a while to take pictures, making the run altogether longer, which I did not count. There were however, many hills in the beginning of trail which slowed us down. Luckily, what goes up must come down, which meant some downhill running as well. My dad and I usually try to go for at least a 10km (approx 6 miles) but I had prior engagements that night, as of which I was already late for.
I felt pretty fabulous during the run. I cannot stand hot weather, therefore the chill in the air was so refreshing. I probably could have ran another few miles no sweat. My dad and I even managed to run the last mile home at a much faster pace.
As much as I love my track club, this run reminded me of how nice it can be sometimes to put some headphones on and just run. No checking the time every minute or trying to race with others around a track. I could run however fast or slow I wanted, no pressure (my dad was just going with whatever I wanted to do, doesn't want me to tell on him to mom, haha).
Overall it was a great run to squeeze into my busy day and made feel fantastic for the rest of the night!

Top 15 Workout Songs for January 2014
Hey guys!
I don't know about you but I have trouble going on the treadmill or for a run without some great music to pump me up. It feels great to block out the world around me and solely pay attention to the lyrics and beat of a song. Or, if I'm running somewhere with lots of scenery, I'll put my music on low and choose some songs with a pretty melody to enhance the beauty.
I have weird taste in music, as sometimes you will hear me listening to something slow and then my next song will be rap. This may seem strange, but I often listen to depressing music as it causes me to really think, and a casual run through a park is the perfect place to do so.
Anyhow, I have come up with a list of some of my favourite songs to listen to while working out. I will hopefully post a new list here every month. Remember, everyone has different taste, so just because I like a song, it doesn't guarantee you will! Difference in opinion is what makes us all unique.
These songs are from all over the place; some old, some new. It was very hard to choose just 15, so these are the ones I've been listening to recently. I'm sure I have forgotten many but that's what next month's list is for! Perhaps if I have time and enough songs, I'll make a new list every two weeks.
Safety Tip: It can dangerous to run alone, especially if you're in a trail. By listening to music you are decreasing your awareness of the things and people around you. When I go on a run alone I always just wear one headphone so that I can hear everything around me.
This list is in no specific order
-Love Club
Lorde
-Timber
Pitbull ft. Kesha
-The Monster
Eminem ft. Rihanna
-Eye of the Tiger
Sruvivor **Just had to include it--it's a classic!**
-It's my Life
Bon Jovi
-Wake Me Up
Avicci
-Paradise
Coldplay
-Light 'em Up
Fall Out Boy
-Radioactive
Imagine Dragons
-Little Talks
Of Monsters and Men
-Drive By
Train
-Demons
Imagine Dragons
-Walk Off the Earth
Red Hands
-Paradise
Coldplay
-Counting Stars
One Republic
ENJOY!
