Welcome fellow running/fitness enthusiasts!
Some of you may consider a hard workout walking up your stairs,
while others may run 10 miles every day. No matter your abilities, there is
always room to improve.
My name is Olivia, I am 15 years old and a proud Canadian.
2 years ago my older sister told me she was going on a run with
her friend. She unexpectedly asked if I would like to join. At first I
dismissed the idea, since when did I go on runs? However, never one to turn
down a challenge, I agreed. It was a great first run with the wind in my hair,
sun on my face, and adrenaline running through my veins. I had never felt so
energized before. When I got home I felt amazing and couldn't wait to tell
everyone of my accomplishment.
After that first run, I began to go on one at least once a week,
which built up to twice a week. I began to add on miles and ended up going on runs
6-7 times a week doing 6-8 miles each day. When school cross country season
rolled around, my mom convinced me to join along with two of my friends.
Nervously I agreed and ended up doing well in the races. I was so proud to be
in the top 10 junior girls in my school district with no previous cross country
training other than my daily runs.
From my wonderful school cross country experience, I built up the
courage to join a club track team. The first practice was terribly scary as I
was very shy at the time and didn't know anyone. My coach was very nice and at
first I didn't have anyone to talk to and would stand alone. After a few months
I finally came out of my comfort zone and met so many amazing people, some of
which I have become very close to and am so thankful.
Around a year after I began running, my 2nd sister convinced me to
go to the gym with her. At first I told her "no" for I was nervous to
use the machines and work out in front of a bunch of strangers. She refused my
no and forced me to go with her. I ended up enjoying the gym because I could
target body parts and muscles that running doesn't work.
Looking back I have no regrets and am so glad that I agreed to
that first run with my sister. It led to me meeting so many fabulous people who
share a common interest with me...fitness! It can be hard sometimes to find
time to work out, and trust me eating healthy is not a breeze! However, it is
all worth it because I feel and look so much better than I did two years ago.
Running and fitness really brought me out of my shell and helped me gain
confidence.
My goal for this blog is to motivate and inspire all of you to
begin working towards a healthy lifestyle, and if you already do exercise and
eat healthy, then keep at it and never stop! Hopefully some of you can relate
to my story. I still have a lot of work to do and personal goals to meet. I
love talking about running and food with other people as it is a great way to
discover new techniques and ideas. The wonderful thing about running is that
you can always get better and it's all about YOU! You
don't need to worry about other people's times or speed. The only thing that
matters is you are determined to beat your own goals and create new ones.
Most of this blog will be focused on running, but from time to
time I will include fitness routines. You can find some delicious healthy
recipes or look at some of my favourite workout outfits. Go to the tips section
to find some great music suggestions to run with and tell me some of your
favourite songs; I could never have enough music on my phone!
Now that you all know a little more about me, feel free to take a
look around my blog and comment or send me messages. I love feedback!
Once you're finished looking through my blog, I encourage you all
to ask yourself "what have I done today for exercise?" If your answer
is "nothing", then get off of your butt and go on a walk with your
dog or whip out your bike and go for a ride. Your heart will thank you!
